The history of Baripada College is the history of expansion of higher education in Orissa. During the transition period of the absence and need of college education Baripada College took its conception in the year 1981 from the minds of the some of the intellectuals of the Baripada town. It started its functioning in the C.T. School at Murgabadi. After discharging its academic function for long 12 years the college was finally shifted to its own building in the year 1993 situated at Jamunadeipur, Ward No.- 18, infront of Circle Jail, Baripada.
The College is going to complete its 42 years. It started in the year 1981 with I.A. affiliated to Utkal University with sanctioned seats of 128. The +2 Science stream got its birth in the year 1992 with sanctioned seats of 64 affiliated to CHSE(O) .Then the college availed the opportunity of opening of both +3 Arts and Science streams with sanctioned strength of 64 seats each from the session 2000-2001, affiliated to North Orissa Unversity, Baripada. Now the sanctioned strength in both +3 Arts & Science streams is 192 & 128 respectively . Honours classes are introduced in 11 subjects. The College with its long journey of 42 years is on the road of progress to achieve its long-cherished goals.
In the academic sphere, the institution has seen many ups and downs in its progress and spent many a glorious moments, years and slowly stepping towards its final perfection. As the College is situated at the road side of Baripada Jail Road, the college building with its idyllic landscape, the perfect blending of rural and urbanism, new trees creating greenish, cool atmosphere looks very picturesque and grand. The College is going to develop its second campus on its one acre land in Gangraj GP., where a Boys' Hostel with 50 seats along with a Volley Ball and Basket Ball Court in the campus.
It is a pleasure and pride that this college has been awarded 'B' grade twice by the NAAC peer team in 2009-10 & 2016-17. The College has developed its infrastructure of different academic blocks, boundary wall and a massive gate adding to its beauty & grandeur . In the mean time the UGC has extended grants for the construction of Women's Hostel, Indoor Stadium, Boys Hostel, Class rooms & computer Lab etc. during 11th & 12th plan period . Simultaneously with the financial assistance of the World Bank under OHEPEE the College has infrastructurally developed to meet the aspirations of the Higher Education. The College has got its fulfilment of the most of its applications by the kind co-operation of the local administrations, people of the locality and above all the efficient management of the dignified G.B. It will soon become one of the full-fledged degree colleges and will be a spirit of dedicated study and aspirated knowledge.
Happily, the college witnessed a constant growing number of students with the flux of each academic year. The college has now got a sizable strength of more than 750 students with more than 33nos of faculties & staff. The maintaining of cordial relationship between the students and teachers, and regular class-teaching are some of the worthy notes of the college. It will grow as it continues to grow towards its full bloom.
